I don’t know when it happened. I know it wasn’t from birth. I used to be so good about it, but the procrastination demon has somehow crept into my life and taken over little by little. I realized yesterday how much time I actually waste by waiting to do something that would often be quicker to deal with immediately. I was a little surprised because I had never been that way before. I was the child who, when given a project, wanted to go home and get it done right away. I have always hated having anything lingering over me to get done. I still do. I really have trouble believing anyone finds peace when anything is hanging in the balance, waiting for you to do something, take care of something. I becomes a source of unrest and displeasure that certainly will affect other areas of your life.
So, I started a little last night but I decided that I am on the quest today and this week and so forth to get rid of that procrastination demon and go back to the “do it now” attitude. If I have something in my hands, take care of it now (not later, no putting it in a pile, no putting it off). A junk email that I am tired of getting? Unsubscribe ASAP and delete it. I am making coffee and look over and see that cast iron pot I had set aside to scrub later. I paused, took care of it and resumed. Making a call about something? If I can call about it, I will call. If I can’t, I will make a reminder in my phone with details and set it for a time I am quite sure I can deal with it in the very near future.
So the word of the day and week is NOW. No judgement and no guilt, just doing what I can to do it now. Is there something you put off? Pay attention this week and let me know what you found yourself putting off. Let me know!
